TLDR: A big part of oil company emissions comes from burning off gas at the tail end of production (“flare” gas). The article says that their pilot program to use this gas for mining, which is adaptive (can turn on or off quickly as needed), helped them cut emissions from such flaring at their testing locations by 63%, and turning it into Bitcoin, helping them reach their 2030 goal of zero-emissions from flaring.
