I suppose you could get a standard point and shoot (and if it's a holiday photo it'll likely be during the day so no major issues focusing). However if your budget is a bit flexible (I'm probably making as assumption given the average HN user) there are very solid high end point and shoots that are meant to fit in a pocket. I remember Sony made one perhaps 3-4 years back, I'm fairly certain other companies would have also made such products.
