YouTube blocks WION for reporting Russian statement
- slater 5y agoOwned by Zee Media. Wikipedia sez: "The network has been involved in several controversies and has broadcast fabricated news stories on multiple occasions. The network is subjected to an ongoing criminal defamation case (through Zee News) against legislator Mahua Moitra as of March 2020." Sounds like YT did us a favor!
- ComradePhil 5y agoIndia did a great job with TikTok but was short-sighted when it comes to YouTube... and they had all the time in the world.
- readonthegoapp 5y agoIt must have got unbanned because i'm watching WION live feed right now on my google/tcl tv. This was basically a warning from the US -- keep reporting views which could be seen as not-sufficiently-pro-America/Ukraine/West, you're off the air just like that. Self-censorship takes over from there. ...ah, i guess they're 'just' stopped from uploading new videos and things like that. banned for 7 days. this started days ago - wonder why they didn't mention it earlier. i was actually thinking about asking this today here -- how do y'all (people of HN) hear any other opinions? like, i hear hippie/indie stuff from the US, like democracy now, and independent analysts on youtube or elsewhere, like videos with chomsky or giannis varafoukis, etc., but....i try really hard to find this stuff. "youtube cannot double-block us, so we're playing that video (of sergey lavrov's statement) again." USA serious about that free speech!
- plastic_bag 5y agoI do not support banning things but Zee Media, who owns WION, is known for extortion, spreading fake news and right wing propaganda in India.
