KiwiX: Store any website on your mobile phone or computer, easily
- etskinner 5y agoIt's really cool to hear that this has been develop to be able to store 'any website'. Previously, my understanding was that it was set up only for wikis.
- piaste 5y agoYeah, I used to save a local copy of Wikivoyage in Kiwix when travelling abroad, back in days before the EU abolished roaming charges. Worked great.
- SanchoPanda 5y agoThey also have a tool available as a docker image to pull any website you want into their format effectively making it searchable and portable.
- jckahn 5y agoThis sounds really interesting, but I'm not finding it. Would you mind sharing a link to the tool?
- hakfoo 5y agoIt's sad that the first use case I see for this is API documentation. Why do so many firms, even in a B2B space, love the flow of "We introduced Shiny New API 3.0, gotta shred every reference to Boring old API 1.0!". Or even "A and B merged, and we're going to eliminate any reference of B's APIs". I can see "we'll move the content to /legacy and link it at the bottom of the page", but someone must be saying "you know, we still have actual customers paying money for these services, and they may have bugfix/compliance/feature update needs that justify leaving the docs around." I suspect there are some services where the ONLY documentation that exists are the copies my firm retained from the original late-2000s/early-2010s integration.
- jckahn 5y agoThe API documentation need is actually better served by something like Zeal: https://zealdocs.org/ https://zealdocs.org/
