This country has tended to start off conservative and Puritan, and relax that mentality sometimes. Following the raging conservatism of the early 1900’s, I think the question is how did these things get decriminalized? Answer: the courts, who need to consider justice in a way politicians don’t. No one’s marriage fell apart because same-sex couples began marrying. No one’s marriage fell apart because different races could marry (except when that marriage was shaky anyway, segregation by day and integration by night it was said). No one’s getting hurt by LBGT+ being able to participate without worry.
