JavaFX is your answer. Download the latest JDK, use Gradle or Maven as your build tool, make sure you properly use modules and you're golden. No need to ship JREs (that concept doesn't exist any more). Furthermore, you can create .exe and .app and move on. It's kinda lame that creating a desktop app has never been easier, yet everything has moved to the cloud.
