Do you actually think that forming a political bloc and pressuring these companies with (more) regulation is easier than just disentangling them from your life? It seems like so much more work to me. Especially since there are plenty of companies that are eager to take your money and give you great service, e.g.:I pay for sr.ht for dev support and ddevault is literally an IRC comment away. I pay for Podia for a web store and when I wanted a different font on my (sub-)site they implemented it an hour. I pay for Tarsnap for encrypted backups and cperciva's customer support is stellar. I can't say enough about how good my experience with Tarsnap has been.
I'm not against (or for) regulation on principle, but it seems to me that you're proposing to work hard, unpaid, to improve these companies, "against their will" as it were, through an indirect and unreliable method, rather than switching to a company that's already great.
