For years I completely cut out news because it was too noisy. Nowadays I catch up once or twice a week by reading https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events to get world current events. And http://68k.news/ http://68k.news/ to get more domestic news without all the click bait and news page clutter (this still has junk celebrity news though) I am missing more local and cultural things. I tend to get it from Reddit/r/NYC which is actually a decent subreddit. I still wish I knew more about what's happening in my neighborhood.
