Airbus Redesigns A350 Cockpit After Spilled Drinks Shut Down Engines
- Nextgrid 5y ago> According to reports at the time, someone in the cockpit spilled a drink about 15 minutes before the engine shut itself down. The liquid ended up on the center pedestal between the two pilots, near a panel which is used to start and control engine functions. > After the right-hand engine shut down, pilots tried, unsuccessfully, to restart it [emphasis mine] This seems like a major incident as it could've very easily been catastrophic had the liquid also contacted the other thrust lever mechanism and/or master engine switch which is right next to the one affected here. I'd say they were very lucky.
- bcrl 5y agoGood on Airbus for doing the right thing! It is a healthy sign when a company engages in actual preventative action to fix an issue rather than waiting until the fleet is grounded (I'm looking at you Boeing and your buggy 737 Max).
