I can't understand why they are not:
a: building new systems on an internet scale non-relational datastore
b: migrating relevant features onto an internet scale non-relational datastore
Are there a lot of folk who are operating at Github's scale still deploying core services to platforms like MySQL?
- vorpalhex 5y agoNon-relational stores are not a replacement for relational ones. They have different consistency and CAP behavior.
- dabeeeenster 5y agoI understand that but you can still write your services around datastores that can scale out better than MySQL?
- MrStonedOne 5y agoNot if you need the data to have a different cap and consistency behavior.
- jpgvm 5y agoMySQL scales out just fine. Anyone who thinks otherwise is simply not well versed enough in how to properly shard data and manage replication topologies. I say this as someone that despises MySQL. Same obviously applies for PostgreSQL but is actually slightly harder for a number of reasons with less out of the box solutions like Vitess available.
