LIMS Research Principles
- derbOac 5y agoThere's a lot to admire here although I can say from experience that some of it taken out of context can lead to severe problems. It's a bit like a three-legged table analogy: knock out one leg and the table falls. For instance, having no departments sounds great, and probably is in some ways. But they also make a point of striving for diversity of research areas being represented. I can say from experience that departments are often a way to ensure that diversity of interests are represented. If you eliminate departments, and don't have a commitment to intellectual diversity, all you're doing is giving mechanism to a purge of everyone but those that hold a narrow range of interests. A lot of the rest of it sounds great if you work in an atmosphere of communication and genuine collaboration. If you're not actually collaborating with colleagues and communicating, you're breeding conflict and lost opportunity. All of the principles listed are difficult to argue with, but I've also seen how they can be twisted or distorted to very different ends.
