I understand this, but I also... really like the cloud. I can share, be social, get recommendations, not worry about backups or a lost computer, not maintain anything, access from my iPhone, etc. I have thousands of photos and music collections lost on old laptops and hard drives that I'll never see again. I know there's huge tradeoffs (as articulated here), but there's some really amazing things about the direction the web is going.
