I sense this internal data is flawed. I imagine the vast majority of users weren't even aware they could change things. Don't attribute people not changing something because of genuine preference when complacency and ignorance makes much more sense.
That being said I'm 100% sure they want to keep as many people on the old algorithm and this is just fluff.
