I put together this small site and call to action based on the take/advice from Chomsky in this interview:
https://the-us-needs-to-get-involved-in-negotiations-to-end-the-war.us/ https://the-us-needs-to-get-involved-in-negotiations-to-end-...
i like the ridiculously-long windows 95 name.
Some folks didn't like:
- the language I used
- Minsk II
- that I believe the US 'largely controls the world'
- that I was accusing the US of not being perfectly benevolent/benificent (?)
- that I was accusing the US of not being involved in negotiations
- other things.
I pinged Chomsky on email to try to get his take on why he thinks the US has to be a part of negotiations. I took my best guess, based on a lot of what he said in that interview and over the years, and on some articles on different sites like this:
https://news.antiwar.com/2022/03/21/us-signals-its-discouraging-zelensky-from-making-concessions-to-russia-that-could-end-the-fighting/ https://news.antiwar.com/2022/03/21/us-signals-its-discourag...
On the tech side, I ended up using Carrd.co, which is great-ish -- pretty much exactly what I wanted -- cheap (I was already a Pro member), quick, simple, etc.
I had the image made via Fiverr for like $20 -- creator said it was the first time he'd been contacted from that site in 3 years.
I bought a domain for cost thru Cloudflare - that was pretty slick - it just seemed like wow - cost. The '.us' domain seemed a bit cheaper than a .com might have been.
Had a DNS/SSL/redirect problem with cloudflare inititially so had to change the Cloudflare 'Flex' SSL default setting to 'Full' and that sorted it.
Created a new 'Site' in Google Analytics and put the ID in Carrd.co - that was painful - i just hate GA (overcomplicated).
i just wanted to know if anyone was using the site at all (very rudimentary, built-in analytics) for a couple of reasons:
one -- to get feedback on the idea/action/implementation, and
two -- because i know little vanity things like that - to know that at least one person saw my effort - has made a difference in whether I continued putting in effort or not on various projects in the past. part of this is vanity, and part of it is -- is this tactic being effective in whatever its function(s) is/are supposed to be? if not, I have to do something else.
