Till this day, most Bulgarians want out of NATO, but given when joining NATO all our Soviet-era weaponry was dismantled, if we're to leave now, we literally will have no means to protect ourselves. Our government prepaid a bunch of F-16s years ago, the US is way behind on their delivery! Basically, our arms were twisted to buy F-16s, not the European Gripens!
