Peace talks are half-measures too though. Ukraine will have to agree to give up Crimea and Donbas, and not allow NATO troops in, then Russia will regroup, retrain, and re-arm, then try again to capture all the territory east of the Dnieper. After all, having proven that the only cost of invasion is temporary sanctions, why wouldn't Putin try again?
If half-measures are ruled out, the only available extremes are complete capitulation (effectively annexation of Ukraine, under a puppet regime, similar to Belarus) or nuclear war, which is what it would mean for NATO to "fully engage". For a non-suicidal listener, then, a call to avoid half-measures is a demand to surrender, hidden behind an olive branch.
- prmph 5y agoNuclear powers have gone to war before without an escalation to nuclear war, so I don't think NATO engaging necessarily leads to nuclear war. It's highly unlikely. Also, I don't think sanctions are going to be removed anytime soon even if hostilities cease.

I don’t know what war you’ve been following over the past month, but Russia would be destroyed by NATO in a conventional conflict. According to their doctrine, they will go nuclear if this happens. They’ve threatened the use of nuclear weapons at various levels of government and it’s been floated on Russian state media programs. Given all that, it does not seem highly unlikely that nuclear weapons would be used.
