Considerations for African American Volunteers in Ukraine (Peace Corps)
- unmole 5y ago> Racial and ethnic minorities in Ukraine, primarily Poles, Hungarians, Crimean Tatars, and Greeks, make up about 5 percent of the total population. So, they decided to leave out the largest minority group? That's a odd thing to do. I wonder why.
- type0 5y agoYou mean Armenians right? Moldovans or Belorussians are not small minorities; Ukrainian Jews often consider themselves as just Ukrainian (for obvious historical reasons). Sure we are forgetting many other fractions of percent of other smallest ethnic minorities from the whole former USSR. Btw Russian Ukranians are the biggest minority in the same way as French Canadians are the biggest minority in Canada, so everyone already knows that.
- unmole 5y ago> Russian Ukranians are the biggest minority in the same way as French Canadians are the biggest minority in Canada, so everyone already knows that. This is meant for someone who is unaware of social dynamics in Ukraine. I'm not buying the rationale that it makes sense to skip talking about Russian Ukrainians because everyone already knows about them. Even if they were well known, detailing their population numbers and distribution would still be helpful.
- muzika 5y agoRussian-speaking Ukrainians are not a minority group in Ukraine.
- unmole 5y agoDo you mean to say that since most Ukrainians are bilingual, Russian Ukrainians are not a minority group?
- ashwagary 5y agoProbably a good idea to sit this one out if you are African American, you have been through enough.
