Microsoft heads up $34M investment in software to cut cargo ship emissions
- logicalmonster 5y agoThis sounds smart. Another problem stemming from big cargo ships is the inexpensive low quality bunker oil that big ships burn that leeches into the ocean. To me, ocean health feels like a lot bigger of a deal than it currently is while everybody focuses on climate change which I think is much less important. (My subjective opinion) Ultimately though, the least polluting ships are those that don’t travel or at least those that don’t travel quite as far. What if an AI started thinking about how to move goods the least amount of distance in order to make products most efficiently? Certainly there’s an optimal means of minimizing the amount of distance that raw materials need to be moved in order to build the things for human life as well as provide economic activity. It’s a hard problem but very fascinating conceptually.
