I think you may be projecting here. I don't have the highest opinion of "the media", but framed that broadly, it's practically a "boo light". There are plenty of outlets that I have a lot of respect for, that can largely be counted on to get the facts right and make cautious inferences rigorously. The AP is not one of them. This is a reasonably high standard, but it's commensurate with the importance of journalism.
