I didn't claim to have. The concept does not exist in many western european countries that they openly admire as models to emulate though, so I'm still interested to see where you're going with this even if you aren't able to answer my question.
- tptacek 5y agoThat rhetoric about immigration in the Republican party is not comparable to that of the Democratic party, even 20 years ago.
- throwawaylinux 5y agoI think it is very comparable. That you can pick out one difference in policy that isn't even the main one responsible for being called far-right racist xenopobic doesn't really change my point. Even Obama was a right wing xenophobic racist nazi for suggesting the border should be secure, deporting illegal immigrants, separated and caged children. Not to mention all the other horrible stuff like claiming that marriage was between a man and a woman. So yes I think I'm on good grounds to believe xenophobia and racism has been decreasing even within the past decade.
- tptacek 5y agoI'm comfortable with what my rebuttal says about your argument and am fine leaving it here.
- throwawaylinux 5y agoIt doesn't, you just cherry picking one difference you could think of and try to claim that is the only thing that matters. That doesn't rebut my argument. Obama absolutely would be called a racist xenophobe today based on his stated policies of border control, his mass deportation of illegal immigrants, and instances of separating immigrant children from their families. That is how far the window has shifted on this topic. Birthright citizenship doesn't change that. So that's how far the window has shifted on the subject in a few short years. Therefore I think it is quite reasonable to question the allegation that racism and xenophobia is getting worse.
- tptacek 5y agoYou're just saying the same things again. I call.
