Why science reporters don’t report fairly on the origins of Covid-19
- jleyank 5y agoThis is a political problem/question, not a scientific one - nothing learned about this topic helps cure, treat or deal with the virus. Maybe the next one, but Covid's out in the wild. I am curious, however, how the lab-origin story in that timeframe accounts for cases seen in Europe in late 2019 and purported cases earlier in 2019 for people who traveled to China or might have been exposed to such travellers. If this is true, it confirms that the virus was floating about (well?) before the current estimates for the market. There was a "bad flu" and cases of viral pneumonia in the West in late 2019, long before there was any way of identifying what it was. By the time antibody tests were present, there was a good chance of nothing remaining to see. This might have been totally unrelated to Covid, or the initial strains spreading in a naive population.
