I remember hydrogen fuel cells getting major hype over 20 years ago, quite specifically in the year 2001. It probably started earlier than that. Since then, there's been approximately zilch in terms of commercial applications, despite numerous drawbacks inherent to lithium ion batteries. I'd bet on some novel alternative battery technology over hydrogen.
