Ask HN: What are some good languages for architectural jobs?

I'd like to get into a career where I'm writing more architectural software. Something that involves writing libraries, frameworks, API's, runtime environments, software engines, those sorts of things. I've been advertising myself as a C# developer for a while now, which I've come to realize is the world of enterprise GUI development, something I'm sick of. I've tried advertising myself as a C++ developer, but all I find are embedded systems jobs (at a much smaller rate than C#) and I'd like to work from home. I always hear people say, contribute to a project, but that doesn't sound like a promising way to make a stable living.
