Use Python for Your Next Project
- physicsguy 5y agoI have to laugh at the suggestion that Python code is portable. It is, only to the extent that you don't depend on any third party packages with a binary dependency, and then you're often worse off than C/C++, because at least there people tend to think about packaging for multiple architectures and operating systems. This even now extends to libraries that are so common they're effectively part of the standard library in Python. The cryptography library now depends on Rust to build. That's fine if you can just use the binary wheels that they provide. But if not... you can't use Rust on a number of architectures because LLVM doesn't support them. And now you can't build the library.
