I bought a mattress on a holiday where they of course had a sale going on. They don't advertise percentage discounts, just the dollar sale price, and it was only something like a 30% discount. (I was still able to negotiate a price which came to 40% off.) But if you need a mattress and can't wait for a sale, then you do have to negotiate if you don't want to leave money on the table.
