Digital Immortality: I only check Facebook to see which classmates died
- tomrod 5y agoI just deleted Facebook recently. I had the account deactivated and would log in occasionally to check in on folks. I finally decided to end that -- left a note up saying I would be delete my account in a few weeks, left a contact email. A few weeks after, I deleted the account. A lot of people expressed being sad and that they will miss me. But, they weren't interacting with my deactivated account, they weren't messaging, and they had my email address. I realized that (many? some? a few? all?) people equate easy async interactive connectivity with social relationship strength. The past few years for me have been proof that this isn't all that true though.
