Gender/identity really plays very little into how I've perceived the content over the years. It's mostly interesting snippets with just about the right amount of story telling. I would go as far as to say it would annoy the hell out of me if the content was about only about identity.
That said, some of the "shitty HN comments" are just valid criticisms or observations. Part of putting this material out into the world is to invite the reply of others, either in a comments section, verbally or just within their own minds. Sometimes your readers will engage negatively with your content, but the engagement with Rachel's content is overwhelmingly positive (it almost always gets to the front page here).
