For the last min. 20 years a minute of idling was more than sufficient even with temps below -25 Celsius (-13 Fahrenheit). Engine was lubricated after 15 to 25 seconds. The rest was nice stories we told ourselves to not feel our butts freeze. I learned a long time ago not to put the burden of this specific comfort (warm car in freezing winter) onto my neighborhood. But maybe that is just me being raised with values towards being a good citizen and a potential good ancestor for the next generations to come.
