You can do a version of this today with vive trackers[0] but that wouldn't work with the quest. There probably is a way though. I've generally found the VR space to be more hackable than I expected so far. Both in software and hardware. The most interesting experimental VR controller I know of at this point is the prototype developed by Lucas VRTech[1]. Starting with his discord might lead in interesting directions.
