I'm not smart enough to be able to parse what's exactly being said in that thread.
But -- I make a point of only turning on my GPS when I'm actually lost and being lost is actually a problem. Sometimes this tries the wife's patience, but I like finding my way around new places. More importantly, I like knowing that if GPS gets scrambled that we'll be just fine.
- giraffe_lady 5y agoIt's a joke or maybe a microfiction or something depending on how you look at it. The "explanation" depends on the reader "knowing" that google maps is implemented by injesting data from parallel universes. The fact that it very nearly uses the same jargon we use to talk about distributed systems is basically the joke, I guess.
- danso 5y agoI admit I didn't completely get it until "Apple has an enormous painting of Steve Jobs" and was thinking "wow I really need to get up to speed on how quantum computing is used in today's tech stack"
