Putin Celebrates Anniversary of Crimea Annexation - As Russia Attacks Ukraine
- eveningcoffee 5y agoPlease note that many of these displayed were forced to join these celebrations.
- decebalus1 5y agoThat's not an excuse. Many of those displayed have been living comfortably numb under petro-dollar funded consumerism for the past decade or so while being 'non-political' and not caring enough about what their new czar was up to. Don't get me wrong, there are still dissidents, but putin managed to beat out any trace of viable opposition while people not only allowed it, most were jacking off in front of the television watching OMON beat in some skulls. And speaking of that opposition, I urge people to check out Alexei Navalny's opinion on Crimea.. I'm tired of the 'innocent Russians' narrative shat around the internet. Nobody forced them to do jack shit. There's just an epidemic of cowardice mixed with a dash of imperial nostalgia going rampant in Russia, that is all.
- eveningcoffee 5y agoYou are not wrong about general sentiment. But these are not people who self organize. Even pro war self organized demonstrations are not tolerated.

Many told the BBC they worked in the public sector, and that they had been pressured into attending by their employers. One man who works in the Moscow metro, told us that he and other employees had been forced to attend the rally. "I'll be here for a while and then I'll leave… I think most people here don't support the war. I don't," he said.
