Hobbies that translate to your profession (like keyboards to programmers or headphones/amps to audio professionals) can very much become placebo. Unless you are financially crippling yourself over the "hobby", it's OK. I have a few keyboards lying around (I've returned a couple as well in the past), I like to change it up every once in a while. It often gives me that little extra push to work on something I might find boring.
