What you described is the history of the United States, you seem to be looking for an excuse but there rarely ever was a legitimate one. I guess we can atleast say the "evil white state officials" have evolved enough not to collude with the federal government to bomb or violently attack those citizens and steal their land as they had done many times in the past.
