Ask HN: Is there a simple way to continuously backup your Google account?
I've seen a few posts about people having their Google accounts disabled. It would be absolutely devastating to me to lose my email, docs, etc.
Is there a simple backup service I can buy to back this stuff up somewhere?
- __d 5y agoJust curious: how much would you be willing to pay, per year, for a service that did this?
- EngCanMan 5y agoI have a synology NAS specifically to backup my google workspace.
- leros 5y agoHow does this work? Is it just backing up your Google drive or also things like docs and email?
- Glant 5y agoYou can use Google Takeout to receive a zip in an email of all your data, including drive, email, and seemingly everything else. You can even schedule it to send a new backup once every 2 months for a year, then just remember to renew the schedule every year. I have my Gmail mirror to a local mail server which sort of becomes my "backup". https://takeout.google.com/ https://takeout.google.com/
- leros 5y agoI saw that you could schedule takeouts every two months. Is there a practical way to use that for restoration?
- kmos17 5y agoI’ve seen this service mentioned here or on reddit (can’t remember which) that does goggle apps backups: https://www.cubebackup.com https://www.cubebackup.com not sure they do individual accounts, and I haven’t tried using that service yet although planning to test it. anyone else has?
