Tennessee State Official Threatens to Seize Town over Ford Motor Co Investment
- jleyank 5y agoI guess we'll see why Ford is going there. If they do nothing and go along, it's for the benefits of the state. If, however, they wish the association with the local community they could point out that things are not build can be not built somewhere else. I would not hold my breath which way things will go.
- QuarterRoy 5y agoI’ve been to mason many times. There’s not much there - 2 small restaurants and a post office (one of those restaurants is a historical land marker - Gus’s fried chicken). I’d like to know why the state comptroller is pulling this - they have recently elected a new mayor and city council.
- mbostleman 5y agoAny reasonable person wants to know why the comptroller is doing this pretty much from the first paragraph. But the article never says.
- ashwagary 5y agoHistorically, black people getting rich in the US is frowned upon. Any natural resources or proximity benefits they stand to profit from, will somehow be confiscated by the dominant society using one scam or another. Many of the suspiciously named "race riots" confirm this fact throughout US history. The Oklahoma oil boom is a good example.
- millzlane 5y agoSo instead of offering to help the town, the state comptroller is reaching out directly to the property owners and trying to convince them that the elected officials are going to do more damage than the previous decade of administration, who stole from the coffers?
- djbebs 5y agoIs it me or is this article pure rage bait? Constant mentions of race, no attempt to even discuss the reason why the state requested that, or the mechanism through which that would even be accomplished... It just feels like the sole purpose of this article is to ramp up hate and rage against the "evil white state officials beings paid off by Ford to keep the blacks down".
- mbostleman 5y agoThat is correct. That’s all the article is. Kudos to HN that it quickly dropped off the front page with less than 5 comments.
- jdhn 5y agoIt's Jalopnik, which is a Gawker Media owned site. Ragebait is all they know. All the good car writers left years ago.
- ashwagary 5y agoWhat you described is the history of the United States, you seem to be looking for an excuse but there rarely ever was a legitimate one. I guess we can atleast say the "evil white state officials" have evolved enough not to collude with the federal government to bomb or violently attack those citizens and steal their land as they had done many times in the past.
- quantified 5y ago> Mumpower, for his part, is dismissive of Mason’s leaders, telling the Lookout he doesn’t think officials even really know how to run the town, especially with so much investment heading their way. They’re not scratching the county and state officials’ backs, obviously.
