The one and only thing that keeps me from using Tailscale is the sign on options. I do have accounts with Microsoft, Github, and Google, but I'm trying to move away from Google (getting any kind of account ban on any Google property means you lose ALL of your Google access with no way to recover, just search HN for stories about this), and I don't frequently use those other services. There's no options for other 'free' identity providers, and you must pay to use any of the commercial solutions. In their support documentation, they note that they absolutely do not want to become an identity provider so they will not offer accounts directly.
I don't mind paying for a service. But to use Tailscale for personal use with a commercial identity provider would get into the "prohibitively expensive" category for me.
