There is a massive difference social media today is run by the largest corporations that exist and design in a way that it is the most addictive possible. I would argue it is similar to alcohol or tabacco this way. Shouting think of the children because some kids/teenagers get drunk at some point is way overkill. However once the tabacco/alcohol industry started directly marketing to them it was quite a different matter.
