Surely this will have a happy ending, right? He specifically didn’t name and shame but he certainly could and that sort of dirt could lose a financial company some serious customers. I imagine they’ll pay him for his silence.
- daniel-thompson 5y agoOr simply offer to make the lawsuit go away for his silence.
- 77pt77 5y agoThis will end in criminal charges. Mark my words. If it gets to trial the judge won't understand anything and all he'll hear is hacking. Same for jury if one is involved. Most likely a plea with probation and now he has a criminal record (possibly felony).
- dannyobrien 5y agoI'm willing to bet $100 that it will not end up with criminal charges. We'd need to set some sort of time-limit, if you're prepared to take the bet. How about six months?
- bsuvc 5y agoI think you could be right. This isn’t some “right click view source” nonsense. OP put in some decent amount of effort into compromising the bank’s system. A judge and jury will not understand this, even if they are a computer literate power user, and even if they work in IT in a non-security role. I also assume that OP is telling their side of the story in the most favorable way possible, and could be omitting some details.
- erosenbe0 5y agoNot likely. Prosecutor has a giant stack of these type of cases and takes the ones that are slam-dunk frauds or where there is some political capital to be gained. This doesn't sound like one of those.
- krater23 5y agoNo he is just still hardly naive and thing he can win without to shaming both enterprizes for the shit they done.
