Netflix to test $2.99 account sharing fee
- willcipriano 5y agoI expect to see lots of $5 a month Netflix accounts pop up on eBay if they go worldwide with this.
- prirun 5y agoThe article I read said it will be limited to adding 2 subaccounts, and those 2 subaccounts will also be taking up some of your device slots (4 on the premium $20/mo plan) I presume. So if there are already a few profiles in the household, it doesn't seem like a slam dunk to add 2 more, even for $10. I share my account with people outside my household. With this latest news and the recent fee hike, I switched from the $20/mo premium plan to $15.50/mo standard. If it were just me, I'd probably cancel it. I've watched a few good shows, maybe 5 or 6 for the year, but at $240 it means I'm paying $40 a movie, which is dumb. I can find 5-6 shows a year on PBS.
- fatnoah 5y agoI currently pay for the 4 device plan. Even though I'm a pretty light user, everything just works, and I can use 2 devices in my house, plus my mom can have Netflix on her TV. If they're going to complicate things or charge more (even with a nominal $2.99 fee) that'd probably be enough to overcome my inertia and get me to just cancel.
