- s1artibartfast 5y agoI think you are correct. While many articles discuss Russian soldiers or fighters, the only articles I could find that provided more detail did indicate that they were indeed mercenaries.

Of a company whose leader is closely tied to Putin and given public awards by Putin for undisclosed reasons after operations in Ukraine, and which was set up by and believed to be exclusively working with the Russian government (in Ukraine before Syria.) But, yeah completely different than fighting Russia.
