You seem to be under the impression that daylight saving time is a new invention? Yeah, changing the time of solar noon doesn't change the number of daylight hours, nobody thinks it does. The point is to stop using 1:00 noon 8 months of the year, and 12:00 noon 4 months of the year, just to pick one and stick with it.
