I accidentally attended way too many of these ; in HK 2017, every business gathering turned out to be a reason to promote crypto by a bunch of crypto bros who I all got to recognise and some that I got to know. I was doing banking systems and obviously all the meet-ups, trade fairs, conferences and investor meetings were targeted by the blockchain crowd as they needed to be hooked up to banking to use crypto currencies. And to give credibility. They are doing the same now but virtually (and I am not longer in HK). Yes these people do think you have mental issues for not going full in and indeed they have little ‘good’ reasons to tell besides get rich quick and oppressive governments; the rest is just mumbling about potential and the decentralised future etc. Most don’t understand what they want to explain; they are there for making money. Now it is all nft and really confuses me; I had a respectable investor contact ask me even yesterday; “Got any nft business going that makes any kind of profit? I have a 500m fund for investing in those in 2022.” When I ask what kind of business examples or portfolio, it call of falls flat short of the obvious; nft marketplaces. But in 2017 it being currency trading or ‘anonymous’ payments, in 2022 it being nft auctions/marketplaces (more or less the same as trading); most people cannot come up with anything when pushed. And these guys are investing 500m$ in 2022 in that, whatever it is.
Browsing around, outside all types of loans, I cannot find much goods either ; it all seems bullshit or one of the above. But I am not in discord groups and whatnot to chat about it.
