While milk, bread, and Russian vehicles might be fine for being in the 1950’s (even Putin drives around in Mercedes lol), for a 21st century standard of living, many conveniences will be unreachable.
Think medical equipment, home appliances, rural labor support (tractors, chainsaws, etc.) recreation (skis, racquets, etc). The rest will still be greatly impacted by factories not having access to western supply chain parts.
- dmitrygr 5y agoMedical equipment and home appliances are made in Russia aplenty, actually. Tractors too. Yes, some more modern luxuries will not be available, but daily life of the middle class will not be affected. Keep in mind that the Russian middle class does not have iphones, nor drives in BMWs.
- throwaway_4ever 5y agoYou mean like this tractor? https://mobile.twitter.com/kamilkazani/status/1501369950463836164 https://mobile.twitter.com/kamilkazani/status/15013699504638... > daily life of the middle class will not be affected …ugh this is actually a wild theory. Every thing that relies on an import is now 30% more expensive.
- dmitrygr 5y agoNo, more like this and more modern variants: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A2-40_(%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BA%D1%82%D0%BE%D1%80) https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A2-40_(%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%...
- NicoJuicy 5y agoIs that a good example? That's almost 3 decades ago > T-40 ( colloquial - sorokovka , sorokan) is a brand of wheeled tractor produced by the Lipetsk Tractor Plant from 1961 to 1995 [1] . > LTZ-60 is a wheeled tractor of traction class 1.4 manufactured by the Lipetsk Tractor Plant , designed to replace the obsolete T-40 . Produced since 1991. Due to bankruptcy, the tractor was discontinued. The factory is bankrupt.

- Youden 5y agoI have a friend who has to deal with a debilitating illness who tells me the Pharma companies are considering cutting Russia off. It may make some medical equipment but it's missing a lot of medicines. Russia doesn't even produce its own insulin, let alone more exotic things like cancer treatment drugs.
