They're also loud inside, in my experience louder than ICE vehicles. i3 at 130kph+ doesn't allow for normal conversation, especially when it's raining. It's very difficult to know how fast the car is going without constantly observing the speedometer, I dread any EV without a HUD. The acceleration is very uncomfortable to some of my passengers because of the instant torque and lack of noise feedback. I very much do not like one pedal driving. Second leg is hanging there doing nothing. The need to constantly keep the acceleration pedal pressed is annoying, slight repositioning of the foot makes the car lose speed in an instant. I do not like that there is no center tunnel. In an ICE vehicle, when the foot is on the accelerator, the knee rests on the tunnel and is supported by the tunnel. In an EV, because of that space, the leg doesn't have anything to rest on. This is very annoying on long distances.
- UncleOxidant 5y agoThis doesn't make sense. Electric motors are a good bit quieter than gas engines - in fact some manufacturers are adding noise-makers so that pedestrians can hear them coming. You say "especially when raining" which makes me think that this is an issue with the noise dampening of the particular vehicle you're talking about.
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoYeah, I mean inside, They're louder inside. I don't know if this is maybe related to the compensation in weight where some of the noise cancelling padding is removed to save weight because batteries are heavy enough already.
- colinmhayes 5y agoAbsolutely not my experience with EVs. They are much quieter at all speeds.
- rad_gruchalski 5y agoIf "at any speed" is up to 60 or 70kph, yeah. Going 130kph+ is unbearable.
