Putin signs law to allow online voting at elections across Russia
- car_analogy 5y agoThe test of a voting system is if it remains trustworthy if implemented by someone that's not. This doesn't apply only to Russia.
- jqpabc123 5y agoWouldn't it be simpler to just let Putin pick the winner?
- jdrc 5y agoAh yeah, focusing on the right problems
- dane-pgp 5y agoMy only hope from this is that by speed-running dictatorship (Any% Glitched), Putin is showing people in other countries what sort of laws and policies they shouldn't trust their democratic (for now) governments to introduce. Apart from online voting, that list includes banning VPNs, requiring all social media companies' servers to be hosted within the country, and being able to declare opposition politicians and charities as "extremists". Of course he has a variety of methods at his disposal that don't require any laws to be passed, but such laws should still be resisted, and they act as good canaries for the health of a democracy.
