To everybody with GMO anxiety: None of these modifications benefit the trees as much as they do us. Even if the traits can spread, they are unlikely to provide evolutionary benefits outside of cultivated spaces. basically: This isn't Jurassic Park, GMOs with human beneficial traits only really thrive while cultivated.
But "Unknown Unknowns" you say? I think the risk is a lot lower than not pursing almost every available means of scale-able carbon capture.
- svnt 5y agoOh thanks! Hey everyone! This guy has seen Jurassic Park and says we are good to proceed! Silicon Valley does not have the right culture to save the planet. VC works by killing 99 companies to create one monopoly. Get back to me when we have hundreds of planets.
- blamestross 5y agoWait until you find out about the past 3000 years worth of GMO plants and animals you encounter and eat every day! It's almost like genetic modification was the first real technology we ever made and getting better at it is a GOOD thing
