When I went through a divorce, my ex lied to the police and attempted to have me arrested several times. Those records were then used against me in civil court, even though I was never charged or arrested. Consequently, I will never take a background check at face value without first asking a lot of questions, because liars and bullies can easily ruin your life. Our system of law coerces innocent people into pleading guilty, so many supposed “criminals” are, in actuality, victims of systemic government brutality.
