Google, Twitter, and Spotify built a culture of documentation
- g42gregory 5y agoI can’t speak for Twitter and Spotify, but I read Google APIs’ docs. I always had this strange feeling: on one hand the docs are there and it’s great. On the other hand, you constantly run into the knowledge gaps that were left out. It finally dawned on me: these docs are written exclusively for the internal Google teams that are working on these APIs. There are not written for external developers. I could be wrong, of course, but that’s what I think. Granted, internal docs are better than no docs!
- pschuegr 5y agoThat's pretty much how all the docs I saw at Google worked. Written by the team for the team.
- kevincox 5y agoI don't think so. The internal teams have no docs. Almost all of the documentation writers are hired just for GCP to provide documentation for customers. I think it is just that some use cases are missed or forgotten about.
