I keep seeing stories about how different people designed their own prosthetics. Are prosthetics on the market just not good enough? Why I that? And why are they so expensive?
- djmips 5y agoIn my mind, they are more one size fits all. The amazing human machinery is so very adaptable. For a particular person's unique needs and application it makes sense to tailor it and no one knows more than the person using the prosthetic. This is analogous to writing your own software tool.

- sircastor 5y agoBecause prosthetics are a medical product, paid for with insurance, they are highly regulated. Cast in an unforgiving light, a prosthetic maker’s first goal is to make sure an insurer will pay for it, then make sure it meets the needs of a wearer.
