As a nation, what’s stopping us from saying the following?
“Ok, you say this is about defending Russia’s security interests. Fine - let us move out as many Ukrainians as wish to leave, and in return we will sign a treaty saying that there will be no EU or NATO expansion into Ukraine, and we will lift all sanctions. Furthermore, we will supply Russia with the technology required to decarbonize and save Earth from the looming methane clathrate die-off.”
- sharken 5y agoThat would be the outcome that Putin can live with. For the West and Ukraine to accept it, the treaty also has to state that all Russian troops must be withdrawn from Ukraine. Sanctions cannot be lifted before that happens.
